High School Week 12 Newsletter

16th November 2019

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We have come to the end of week 12 of this term. It has been a busy week for our students and staff. I wish to thank you for your continued support.

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day (sometimes known informally as Poppy Day owing to the tradition of the remembrance poppy) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty. The students wore poppies on their sweaters and blazers in commemoration of this day.

Food and Nutrition Trip

The Year 10 and 11 Food and Nutrition students visited Delmonte Factory in Thika where they had an opportunity to learn about food production, packaging, labelling, health and safety which are some of the topics they learn in the subject.

Rhino Cup Debate Challenge

We hosted students from Brookhouse who were proposing the motion ‘That Western museums should agree to repatriate cultural artefacts’. The Braeside team put up a good fight but Brookhouse carried the day. The team will proceed to the finals where they will fight out for the third position.

KS3 Swahili Day

On Friday, 15th November 2019, the KS3 celebrated Swahili Day where they narrated poems, stories and sang songs. This is a way of enhancing Kiswahili and further the language and culture amongst the students.

School Production

We will hold our Annual School production titled ‘Legally Blonde’ on Thursday, 28th November (Schools’ Show at 11:00 am), Friday, 29th November (open to the public at 6:00 pm) and Saturday, 30th November (open to the public at 5:00 pm). Kindly come and support the students as they showcase their talents.

From the Sports Desk

Braeside is once again proud of the U17 boy's football team for being the champions of the KAIISSO U17 boys premier league tournament that was held at Hillcrest School last Saturday on 9th November 2019. The boys displayed high standards of football throughout the tournament as well as good sportsmanship. Well done to the team.

The U15 girl's rounders team also took part in the KAIISSO U15 Girls rounders held at Greensteds and did extremely well where they emerged 4th in their category.

The Braeburn Kasarani athletics competition took place on Friday, 15th November 2019 and we are proud to have been represented in various categories. We shall be able to share the results once the organizers forward them to us. The U15 boy's football team are playing their finals today and we wish them all the best.

Wishing you a good weekend.

Regards,

Ms Catherine Macharia
