Bike exercise is an important part of Early Years’ Development as it provides wonderful opportunities to explore new adventures. It is also a way of developing and discovering new skills that are yet to be explored.
This week, the Foundation Stage 2 children focused on movement from head-to-toe and what better way to do it than being on their bikes! They were ready with their helmets and safety gear and off for some fun and adventure! 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. 'On your bike, ready, set, go!'
Holding onto the handlebars, they went on a trail; twisting left and right steering around the Early Years heading to the school carpark area. They took deep breaths in and long breaths out as they imagined that they were cycling up and down the hill.
Knowing and using the hand signals were part of bike safety lesson because it lets other cyclists and drivers know in which direction one is going to move. Do you know the hand signals to use when you want to make a turn? Braestars gave it a try to let the children behind them know they mean to turn left by sticking out their left arm straight out to the left side to signal that they were turning left. Bravo FS2!
With water breaks and rests in between the bike ride, the children discovered new skills while creating lifelong memories.
